After wrapping his first Astroworld Fest in his hometown, Travis Scott has been honored by Houston’s city hall with an honorary day dedicated to his monumental album.

Declaring Nov. 18, as “Astroworld Day,” the rapper accepted his award and briefly mentioned the strength of Texas. The 27-year-old talked about how after being demolished by hurricane after hurricane, the city has managed to stay strong.

Speaking to the crowd of adolescents, Scott offered words of advice to the youth. “Y’all right here, y’all are the future. It may not seem like it because you can’t drive or have a driver’s license; just use all the time you can’t go to the parties and clubs to start working on the future.”

Thank you, @trvisXX for stopping by city hall the day after your successful #AstroworldFest2018 . Your message to the high school students in the room left a great impression. #TravisScott pic.twitter.com/EePpeNsfiW

He briefly discussed the album’s title, explaining that its inspiration came from an abandoned amusement park in his hometown. Marking the park’s significance, the father-of-one tried to bring the same energy that circulated the original Astroworld to his music festival.

“I grew up here my whole life. I was inspired by Astroworld. In ’05 when they took it away, it kind of like took a big piece of my heart away,” he said. “I just wanted to kind of bring back that feeling and give this city something [so] they can always have something fun to do.”
