Over the weekend, Rick Ross announced via Twitter that he officially joined the Warner Bros. Records family. Signing his company, Maybach Music Group, to a label deal, Ross has secured new distribution for himself and artists Wale, Meek Mill, Torch, Gunplay, Masspike Miles and others.
Home to acts such as Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, Jason Derulo, and Curren$y, Warner Bros. was rumored to be in an intense bidding war with Bad Boy/Interscope and Cash Money/Universal.
“We were drawn to Ross’ hustle. He’s an entrepreneur like we are,” said Warner Bros executive, Todd Moscowitz in a statement given to VIBE. “We built our company from the ground up and that’s exactly what he did. Ross stands for something.”
After being in negotiations with the powerhouse for several months, Ricky Rozay finally found an offer he couldn’t refuse. However, contractually Ross still owes Def Jam at least one more album. The platinum selling artist’s forthcoming set, God Forgives, I Don’t, is due out later this year.
With full creative control over his upcoming projects and those of his artists, Rick Ross now attempts to solidify his brand as a major player. Warner also shares his vision and is confident in his future success.
“Ross is a magnate, a lightning rod. It’s so obvious that he’s focused on building an empire. He’s a brand builder and we’ve had more success than anyone at supporting that. It’s so much bigger than an artist thing,” Moscowitz continued. “It’s about our partnership in building something enduring and we’re backing Ross’ vision, all the way and giving him the resources and backing to do it.”
